   APPLES

Pollination Group

The apple varieties are divided into three Pollination Groups:

A – Early, B – Mid-season and C – Late.

To ensure good pollination, it is important to select apples from the same group or from the neighbouring group.   These apples are Diploid and require only one other variety.   Although there are a few varieties which are self-fertile (SF) and don’t need any other apples for pollination, a few varieties are Triploid.   These need two other apples for successful pollination, for example ‘Bramley Seedling’.
